Sarafael was previously performed at Adelines Lab, a community that supports local artists in an effort to nurture the creative spirits that exist in the Bay Area. The play was the premiere performance in a test season for The Forum.
Over the next 10 months, The Forum will produce four works / performances / pieces tackling current political or social issues by blending performance, gallery curation and dramaturgy-inspired reporting.
After her childhood friend accuses her brother of rape, Ari enters the mind of a trauma survivor as a potential witness to the alleged assault. The ethereal and explosive drama tackles the struggle of communication and repression.
In a world craving more honest discussion about sexual assault, the piece attempts to deepen the conversation about the limitations of expressing trauma especially when using the narratives of our times. SARAFAEL asks: “What happens when you're forced to let someone else write your story?”
This piece includes PHYSICAL VIOLENCE and discussions on SEXUAL ASSAULT / RAPE and PTSD.
